Rocche dell'Annunziata is one Barolo's most prized vineyards, producing refined and elegant wines with distinctive floral perfume, rich fruit and silky tannins. 2016 was a great year for Settimo, so this wine is typically complex, with a deep garnet red colour, a bouquet of violets, cinammon and forest floor, and a full silky palate with black cherry, raspberry and warm spices. The tannins are still very present and will soften with ageing, but are fine and silky lending a pleasant, taut structure. Fresh and elegant.
The traditional method followed by Settimo means fairly lengthy fermentation on the skins, followed by a year in concrete and 24 months maturing in big (25-35 hectolitre) untoasted 10-15 year old French oak casks.
