Settimo's Langhe Nebbiolo comes from the youngest vineyards in the area they grow Nebbiolo for Barolo. The main difference is the vinification - the Langhe Nebbiolo undergoes a shorter maceration on the skins and is not wood-aged, so its tannins are those found naturally in the Nebbiolo grape itself. With good wine-making this can result in a well-structured and approachable wine that is versatile with food and ready to drink without needing to be aged.
The 2015 has a lovely bright, light garnet red colour. The nose is intense, with fruity notes of cherries, blackberries and raspberries, floral overtones of violets and balsamic hints of cocoa and liquorice. The full character of the Nebbiolo grape comes out on the mouth, with moderate tannins making the taste smooth, well-balanced and rounded. Lots of ripe red cherry, backed by flavours of the bouquet - dried flowers, sweet spices, dark chocolate - and a classic dry finish.
100% Nebbiolo, vinified according to tradition: short fermentations on the skins (8-10 days) and 46 months ageing in concrete tanks.
