Located in the commune of Macau, adjacent to Margaux, Château Tayet has ten hectares of vineyards planted on ancient marshes on the shore of the Garonne. The estate covered 7 hectares in 1994 when it was taken over by its current managers and was expanded twice in 1999 to a total area under vine of 10 hectares, consisting of Merlot (55%), Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and Petit Verdot (5%). In accordance with the managers' desire to refine the wine, production has decreased by about 25% through the use of sustainable farming methods and vine management. The blend for Château Tayet is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. After vinification in the winery, maturation takes place for 12 months or so in stainless steel or concrete tanks. The wine is then bottled at the château. Ruby red, with a nose and palate of red fruit flavours. Good depth and length for the price. Should be drunk within 3-5 years, to get the best from the fruit. |
