Sylvaner is a grape that Albert is totally passionate about. A huge campaigner for its status as an Alsace treasure and Grand Cru wine, he makes this to be a serious but sunny white - clear bright yellow when young, with aromas of melon and exotic fruits and a hint of smokiness and salted butter. On the palate it is lively and rich with fruit and minerality, a touch off dry with a lingering fruity finish.
It has structure enough to carry a wide variety of foods, from the smokiness of some typical Alsace dishes to seafood and white meats, fresh cheeses and quiche. The man himself recommends a pairing with 'le chou et toute ses déclinaisons' - cabbage and all its variations.
100% Sylvaner from 50 year-old vines grown on clay-sandstone soils, vinified as naturally as possible with minimal intervention.
